Hi, I’m Susy. A facilitator of yoga, movement and sound, working through Cheshire and the North West of the UK.

My relationship with yoga began almost 20 years ago, with a class at my University in Aberystwyth, Wales. Practising in the Welsh mountains, looking out to the sea, gifted me with a stabilising calm and revitalised energy in a way nothing else had before. Was it the yoga or the scenery? Probably both!

Growing up with chronic asthma had always left me feeling limited in my body, having to be careful and not over exert myself. Movement was seen as a risk that could land me in a hospital bed for weeks. But here in the physical practice of yoga there was a sense of freedom and flow. Even my concentration and focus improved.

My yoga practice came with me as I moved through the ups and downs of life, a reliable source of peace and motivation in equal measure. In 2018, when I felt I’d got a bit stuck in the day-to-day, I decided to challenge myself by taking on my first yoga teacher training.

Since then I’ve let my curiosity and instinct guide me to numerous trainings, teachers and experiences, all over the world. I’m always looking to learn more, expand more (hello, Sagittarius sun), but I’ve poured all my knowledge gained so far into offerings that I hope can support you to find more space, most rest and more ease. A return to you.

MY PHILOSOPHY

Movement as medicine Our bodies were designed to move. I believe movement practices should support your daily functionality but they can be so much more - liberating, therapeutic, grounding. My movement offerings range from the restorative to the ecstatic but all with the intention of connecting you with the felt experience of your body, providing you with agency to move in the way that works for you and inviting you to meet yourself, just as you are.

Sound as medicine We are vibration and each of us have our own signature ‘drone’ that allows our cells to recognise each other. Sound was there in the very beginning and some theorise, the source of all life on earth - it’s one the first things we become aware of, even before we’re born. In sound we can reconnect and return to the simplicity of who we are. Sound bathing can create ease, calm and support deep rest.

Yoga is for everybody Yoga in the West has, for the most part, morphed into a physical gymnastics-style practice that can make people think they’re not ‘flexible enough’ or the right body shape to participate. This is the complete antithesis of yoga and one of my priorities is ensuring yoga feels accessible to everyone. I’m here to help you find what works for you.

Yoga is activism We can treat yoga as an ‘escape’, an ‘oasis of calm’ from the harsh realities of the world and sometimes this is needed, but yoga has always been a practice for building capacity to be IN this world, not run away from it. Yoga philosophy asks us to disrupt harm in all it’s forms, be accountable and strive for fairness and justice. This must inform our practice if we are to say we truly ‘practice yoga’.

Rest is radical
We live in a world where our value is measured by how productive we are and we’re made to feel guilty for wanting space to simply be, to breathe, to do nothing. Rest is not a reward or something you fit in when you can - it’s absolutely essential to our survival and we cannot hope to flourish without it. Allowing yourself true rest is now a radical act, join me in the rest revolution :)

We heal in community Modern society is very individualistic and has us believing we must do it all by ourselves but as humans, we’re community creatures, even the most introverted (me!) need others for true wellness. Whether it’s spending time with like-minded hearts, sharing laughter or resources or simply having others witness us as we are, it’s all incredible powerful and very much needed. I love retreats for this very reason - even if just for a weekend, we experience the nourishment of community.

I’m here to share, not ‘teach’ I don’t have all the answers and I’m muddling through life like everyone else! I’ve not ‘mastered’ yoga or any other modality I explore because I don’t think one can in one lifetime :) I simply share what works for me, what lights me up and what my body loves. I can pass on the knowledge I’ve acquired but you are your only true teacher.
