YOGA NIDRA - THE SLEEP
OF THE YOGIS

Yogi and guru, Satyananda Saraswati describes Yoga Nidra as, ‘the yoga of aware sleep [in which] lies the secret of self healing. Yoga Nidra is a pratyahara technique in which the distractions of the mind are contained and the mind is relaxed’.

Yoga nidra is the ultimate practice of ‘non-doing’. It can be seen as a form of meditation that is accessible and effortless where we ‘surf’ the threshold. It helps condition the mind to wind down and rest, which in turn allows the body to properly rest. It is only when the body is truly rested can we then rejuvenate or experience full health. Research has shown that Nidra can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression, improve sleep and reduce pain, even chronic pain. It has been endorsed by the US Army Surgeon General for it’s effectiveness in treating PTSD.

IYoga Nidra can be such a powerful healing tool due to how it helps regulate our brain waves and increase the plasticity of the brain, making us more adaptable. It can re-wire negative thinking patterns and the benefits can be felt after just one session.

Nidra is suitable for all and no previous experience of yoga or meditation is necessary. It is a practice you receive rather than ‘do’ so there is no way to get it wrong.

My Yoga Nidra sessions are often included in retreat offerings and combined with sound bathing sessions.
